About Winc

Winc was launched by two wine lovers and a sommelier in 2012 who wanted to spread the joy of artisanal Californian wineries to both connoisseurs and novices of the Golden State. Its range ventures out into much-loved world regions, but its mainstay is limited-edition and bespoke wines from California.

Main Differences Between Plonk vs Winc

The chief difference between Plonk and Winc comes down to each club’s special calling card. In the case of Plonk, this is clearly its range of chemical-free labels all made 100% with organic and biodynamic practices.

It also has a convenient choice of bottle numbers and delivery frequencies.  Winc has two stand-out features. The first is its focus on the reds and whites of artisanal Californian producers and the second is its palate profile quiz that goes a long way to ensuring that each of your shipments is suited to your tastes.

Main Benefits Overall Comparison

While every bottle in Plonk’s range is produced with organic or biodynamic methods that do no harm, Winc’s signature note is its showcasing of artisanal wines from California and other major regions.

Plonk Main Benefits Overall

The stand-out selling point for Plonk is its portfolio of wines made in sync with nature. Each bottle comes from a winery that practices organic or biodynamic production in the vineyard and winery.

Plonk has great flexibility with three membership options plus several delivery frequencies and bottle quantities that have all bases covered. On the red tape front, there’s good customer support, a satisfaction guarantee, and you can easily cancel anytime. Furthermore, the club has a few handy gift options if you want to impress a wine lover.

Winc Main Benefits Overall

If you love all the reds and whites California has to offer, Winc is the perfect club for you. It’s renowned for its selection of boutique labels from hand-selected wineries dotted around the Golden State.

You don’t just have a choice of pre-existing labels; this club also works closely with its partner vintners to make reds, whites, and rosés that suit the tastes of its members to a T. It works in the same way with producers from other major wine regions so there’s plenty of variety. What’s more, it customizes your cases with a palate quiz.

Wine Selection

Plonk Wine Selection

Plonk is a top white wine club because of its links to classic world regions where Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling flows. It has a selection of reds to match plus a choice of rosés and sparkling labels.

While it makes sure it brings you all the varietals you love, Plonk also ferrets around Hungry, Greece, and other countries that are slightly off the grid offering untapped grape varieties that deserve more fans. The entire range is organic and/ or biodynamic meaning no pesticides or herbicides in the vineyard and no winery additives.

Winc Wine Selection

Winc sources most of its selection from a web of top boutique California vintners which means you’ve got a great red wine club in your sights. It has a good range of fine Zinfandels and all the red blends the Golden State has built such a stellar reputation on.

There are also plenty of excellent white labels in the range too with local expressions of international varietals. Winc also has its share of bubblies and a good choice of vegan, natural, low-alcohol/ sugar, and organic bottles. It regularly refreshes its range to keep things interesting.

Pricing and Shipping

Plonk Pricing and Shipping

There’s a flat rate regardless of whether you go for the red, white, or a mixed case and the cost is per case (not per month unless you choose the monthly delivery plan). Four wines cost $110 per shipment, six bottles are $160, and a dozen are charged at $285. Shipping is free for all membership types and levels.

In the event of very bad weather, Plonk may hold off delivery for a few days until conditions improve. Wines are shipped the first week of every month and take between five and ten days to arrive. Plonk can reroute after shipping if necessary, for a charge of $20.

Shipping costs are not added on any orders of $50 or more which ties in nicely with the monthly subscription fee. Winc offers expedited shipping if you need your bottles urgently. There are two options comprising overnight delivery if you’re in a real rush or a two-day delivery window when you can wait a little but still need your labels asap.

Customer Service and Guarantee

Plonk Customer Service and Guarantee

To get in touch with Plonk, there are two choices; phone during office hours or email. This club is very conscientious about responding in a timely manner, so you never get frustrated about customer service.

As far as a guarantee goes, the Plonk tasting team tries countless wines in its search for the finest and most interesting organic and biodynamic labels and only passes a small number, so I’d be surprised if one of your bottles isn’t up to par. That being said, Plonk’s satisfaction guarantee is spotless. If you receive a bottle that’s damaged or you don’t like, get in touch within 72 hours and it’ll make you whole.

Winc Customer Service and Guarantee

There are several convenient ways you can contact Winc. You have the choice of live chat and text during office hours and email which the club will aim to respond to within 24 hours.

The club has a phone line, but it isn’t always available in difficult circumstances (like a pandemic). The club is dedicated to customer satisfaction, so if any of your labels don’t float your boat for any reason, contact Winc and its customer service team will try to fix the problem. This normally means crediting you with the full value of the rogue bottle/s.

Cancellation Terms

Plonk Cancellation Terms

Whether you can cancel or not depends on what plan you have with Plonk. If you’ve prepaid for subscriptions with a duration of three, six, or 12 months you’re not entitled to a cancelation refund as they’re classed as “non-refundable final sales”.

On the other hand, if you pay for your membership plan on a rolling monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly basis, you can cancel when you want. For it to take effect before your next shipment, you need to do the deed in your account or contact Plonk at least seven working days before your next scheduled billing date.

Winc Cancellation Terms

Canceling your Winc membership is straightforward. You get in touch with the club through phone or email and inform it about our decision to process the cancelation. The customer service team will want to check if there’s any way the club can be more enjoyable for you and guide you to a few options that could improve your experience. The bottom line though is, if you’re ready to close your membership, Winc will facilitate this for you. It’s worth noting that if you’re on the fence about outright cancelation, you can skip a month indefinitely without any penalty.

Our Winner - Plonk!

Plonk

Both of these clubs have distinct niches and they each excel in them. That being said, Plonk’s our winner this time because of the purity and quality of its range. While Winc offers a few organic labels, there’s nothing like the savvy selection that Plonk has for members and shoppers.

This club also comes out ahead for its range of membership options. The selection of bottle counts, and delivery frequencies offer members a lot of flexibility when fitting the flow of wine into their lives. You can also switch between membership options in between shipments with ease. Cheers to Plonk!
